Number 71 stamped inside surface of patch box lid. .48 caliber, 34-inch heavyweight patent breech octagon barrel, engraved on breech "Philada." Finely faceted blued steel stationary rear sight dovetailed into position, as is front sight, with German silver blade. Barrel finished in brown. Lock plate inscribed "J. Krider." Finely scroll and border engraved steel barrel breech, lock, spurred trigger guard, crescent butt plate, oval patch box, toe plate, and border motif on wedge plates, with decorated rear ramrod ferrule, and plain front ones. German silver fore-end cap. Silver escutcheon inlaid on top of wrist. Steel insert at top of wrist between escutcheon and upper tang for peep sight. Single set trigger. Varnished select walnut stock with checkered wrist, and elegantly formed crescent cheek piece. Hickory ramrod with brass mounts. Worm in patch box, with cloth. Weight of 11 lbs.

Condition: Very good, the barrel re-browned, sights re-blued. Two circular inserts visible on barrel at breech, likely had been tapped for a rear sight. Fine bore with moderate pitting. Surface pitting on steel mounts, including lock and patch box, with gray and brown patina. Stock with light wear and careful re-varnish.
