Pre-Columbian, Classic Maya, ca. 250 to 900 CE. A beautiful pair of Maya jade bead necklaces. The first example is comprised of a central long tubular bead and ten smaller beads of circular and tubular shapes, five on each side - all of deep green hues with light and dark inclusions. A lovely balanced, symmetrical design. Size: largest bead measures 1.875" L (4.8 cm)

Just as beautiful, is the delicate necklace featuring a flat, round jade bead surmounted by a more petite circular bead, both of relatively pale shades of green. Strung on a modern 24" chain. Size: larger bead measures ~ 1" in diameter (2.5 cm). Strung on a modern 22" chain

Provenance: Ex-M. Poolos collection, Chicago, IL, acquired prior to 1970.
