Description
India, 2nd century CE. This is a large fragment of a red sandstone bust with broad shoulders and hands clasped together in front of the body. He is adorned with a necklace, wristbands, and armlets. The Kushan Empire sat in the high steppes of Central Asia, with a capital near modern day Kabul, Afghanistan; however, much of their territory was in northern India. Their culture has ties to Gandhara, as shown in their sculpture, like this bust. Size: 9" W x 5-1/2" H; with custom stand, 8" H (22.9 cm x 14 cm; 20.3 cm).
