Southeast Asia, Borneo, Central Kalimantan, Ngaju Dayak, ca. late 19th century to early 20th century CE. A carved wooden standing male charm figure presented in a stylized, abstract manner characteristic of the Dayak. This example stands with its left hand placed over the womb/abdominal area. The form is minimalist and abstract as is customary of the indigenous peoples of Borneo. The visage, somewhat simian in nature, is a simple round countenance with circular eyes, a short nose, small ears, and an open mouth perhaps indicative of singing or chanting. Stands upon a perforated integral base. Custom base. Size: 1.25" W x 6" H (3.2 cm x 15.2 cm)

Provenance: Ex- private collection of Ami Brown. Mr. Brown was the owner of the Coca Cola franchise in Israel and amassed a huge and very fine collection of Indonesian Kris's as well as other ethnographic and tribal arts. His collection numbered more than 3000 pieces with many on display during his life in the Ein Harod Museum of Art.
