Item Details
Description
Mexico, Spanish colonial period, ca. 18th century CE. This is a small iron pike head with an elaborate and deadly design, a conical, tapered socket, and a still-very sharp tip! Patina on this piece is excellent. On the Spanish frontier in Mexico, it was difficult to keep firearms serviceable; there were also shortages of gunpowder. As a result, Spanish forces at this time preferred to use lances. These were the product of local blacksmiths, and often have unique design flair. Size: 6.35" L x 0.8" W (16.1 cm x 2 cm)

Provenance: Ex- Historia Antiques, Santa Monica, CA, James Caswell collection
