Description
Latin America, Mexico, Spanish Colonial Period, ca. 17th to 18th century CE. A collection of 9 forged iron lance and spear heads, each bearing a conical socketing shaft on the bottom or a thick tang. There are a variety in forms and sizes ranging from thick and broad petaloid shapes, slender and elongated, to shorter and more rhomboid in shape. Such iron weapons were primarily used by European guardsmen or horseback soldiers whose reach could dominate early North American battlefields. A wonderful patina envelops each of these fine examples! Size (largest blade): 15.125" L x 2.125" W (38.4 cm x 5.4 cm)

Surface pitting, tearing, and stable fissures on blades. Losses to tips on several and chips. Misshapen edges on sockets and bending to blades. Russet patina and mineral deposits throughout.
