Description
Southeast Asia, Indonesia, Java, Majapahit Empire, ca. 13th to 15th century CE. A forged-iron trident weapon known as a trishula. The lengthy head features a central blade flanked by a pair of curved blades, and the midsection bears a sturdy spacer disc meant to act as a buffer between the weapon and the wooden pole into which it would have been inserted. The bottom of the tang features a spiralized groove that secured the weapon head in place. Tridents are worshipped as ritualistic implements, symbolizing the victory of Buddhism over the forces of evil. Size: 18.2" L x 3.8" W (46.2 cm x 9.7 cm); 19.2" H (48.8 cm) on included custom stand.
