Folk Art Basket in Old Paint, Village Scene

Item Details

Description

A vintage folk art basket. The basket is made of woven wood and retains the original paint. It is decorated with a continous country landscape scene that includes houses, barns an Amish Farmer with his Dog, flowers and fences. The artist did a wonderful job of using the natural weave of the basket to design the buildings, they do have a slight dimensional effect which is apparent in person but not in the photos. I did acquire this in the Lancaster region of Pennsylvania. I would date it circa 1960s. It is signed on one side "MS". The basket has 2 calico lined compartmentsinside. Overall dimensions are 10 3/4" x 7" x 11" high.
