Item Details
Description
An Adams & Westlake brass top bell bottom lantern made for the Pennsylvania Railroad. This version has a twist-off bell and PRR stamped in the lid in fancy lettering. The base of the bell has the William Westlake patent information. The bell has the older style mounting pin guides. They are soldered on rather than stamped. It has a very old pick-wick brass burner and a tin fount. There is some pitting to the metal. The frame has a dark finish and it was clear-coated in the past.

The globe has an extended base and thit is red flashed. The flashing refers to a thin coat of red glass applied to the interior of a clear globe. Red glass was expensive to produce in the 1800s. The globe has PRR cast in fancy lettering. It is not a particularly strong casting. The globe has a nice MacBeth 220 Pear Glass etched hallmark that I just couldn't get a picture of. The globe is very heavy.
