Circa 1845 Half Portrait of Southern Lady, Oil on Canvas Painting of Southern Lady. From the Jackson, "Madison County" Tennessee estate of Judge Walter Baker Harris and living estate of Betty Y. Harris. Mrs. Harris conducted estate tag sales in the Jackson, Tennessee area. Unknown artist, most paintings of the era were painted by traveling itinerant portrait artist. Painting of a Lady with black hair, wearing a crochet scarf and black dress and holding a small book or New Testament. Canvas measures 24.5" X 29.5" , Early tendon jointed frame. measures 30" X 34.75" . Condition - Painting has recent restoration including relining. Mild craquelure to majority of canvas, Frame has older restoration and some damage.
