Alexandre Gabriel Decamps (French, 1803 - 1860) "The Spanish Letter". Oil/Canvas. Sight Size: 11.75 x 15.25 inches. Accompanied by original bill of sale and authenticity guarantee from Sidney Carter (Montreal) 1934 as well as bill of sale from Williams & Son (London). Alexandre Gabriel Decamps was born in Paris in 1803 and was a student of Eugène Delacroix. After his classical studies in the studio of Abel de Pujol, he soon showed his artistic independence and traveled to Italy and Asia Minor. In 1827 he returned to Paris and concentrated on lithography and caricature. In the "salon" of 1831 finally successful, he chose his subjects from the oriental way of life. Decamps died in 1860.
