Susan Rothenberg has established her place as one of the most highly regarded artists working in the genre of abstracted figuration. She is best known for her renderings of horses in an expressionistic painterly style. The image in this print is a figure described by the title as a 'stumblebum', one who is clumsy and/or inept. Rothenberg's great expressive drawing style further highlights this figure's vibrating presence. This print is very rare to auction.

Susan Rothenberg (American, born 1945)

Susan Rothenberg was born in 1945 in Buffalo, New York, and received her degree from Cornell University. Best known for her life-size horse paintings, Susan Rothenberg gained her acclaim from her bold outlines and lush colors. Her works depict recognizable subjects yet she does not want to give literal meanings to them. Rothenberg has held solo exhibitions at the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden in Washington, D.C., the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago, the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, and the Tate Gallery in London, among many others.
