Description:
Complete issue of L'Assiette au Beurre, No. 47. Approx. 8.75 x 12.5", 14pp., being 7 double-page color illustrations (without text) + plus front and rear covers, all by Steinlen
Famed French Art Nouveau artist whose iconic Belle Epoque posters rivaled those of Toulouse-Lautrec, Steinlen was also a political radical whose comic (and in this case, grotesque) illustrations ridiculed and condemned social inequality, racism and militarism. These stark, and still heart-rending, double-page drawings in a popular left-wing periodical depict the millions oppressed and killed by war, European imperialism and colonialism.
