Bio: Born into a family of humble origins, Canjura became one of the leading landscape, still-life and figure painters in France. Canjura began studying art at the Academy of Painting of Valero Lecha in San Salvador, before moving to Mexico City to continue his studies. While in the city Canjura was exposed to Diego Rivera, who was at the height of his fame, and Canjura was greatly inspired by the fresco painter. Canjura’s career changed dramatically when the Mexican government funded a scholarship to study fresco painting at the Ecole Nationale in France. While living abroad, Canjura fell in love with France. He was wildly popular in his adopted country - he exhibited regularly and with unquestioned popularity in the great Salons of Paris. Sadly, Canjura died young but he became an icon in El Salvador as one of the great artists of his generation.
