Description
Roman Empire, 1st century CE. A fine ribbed bowl in aqua-colored glass. The mold-made bowl cast, of shallow phiale-like form, with concave base and thirty-four radiating ribs around the bottom. As is usual for this class, the exterior with smooth fire polish while the rim and interior show lapidary polishing techniques, along with two wheel-cut grooves as ornament within. A wonderful example rare to find this nice! Size: 4.875" W x 2.375" H (12.4 cm x 6 cm)
Provenance: Ex-Sarkisian Gallery, Denver, CO acquired in Syria in 1952.

Condition
Some light, cleanable calcerous patina along the sides, and slight traces of iridescence. Piece intact and perfect -- and without any of the occasional age cracks that these heavy glass bowls seem to accumulate
