Fritz Burkhardt (1900-1983)
Fritz Burkhardt was a German painter and graphic artist who belonged to the ‘verschollene Generation’ of German artists. From 1924 till 1927, Burkhardt studied at the Akademie der Bildenden Künste in Munich and worked there as an artist till the outbreak of the Second World War. During a bombardment in the last year of the war, many of his paintings were destroyed irretrievably. Fritz Burkhardt was a member of the Neue Gruppe and the Juryfreien, amongst others. He created most of his paintings in the time of the late Weimar Republic. Often they depict subjects such as prostitution and crime, nightlife scenes, as well as brothels and bars motifs. (cko)
