Description
Continental Neoclassical-Style Polychrome and Marble-Top Side Table, mid-19th century, the rectangular marble top above a conforming frieze fitted with a single long drawer, with applied carved giltwood designs in the neoclassical taste, raised on large, ribbed, tapering circular legs ending in toupie feet, h. 35-1/2", w. 46-1/2", d. 23".
Condition
In "as found" condition. Structurally sound. Appears to retain its original painted surface, with some minor possible touch-up. One of the gold-painted rosettes on the left side apron has a 2" replaced section. One urn handle on the same side is replaced with filler and does not match the other handle. Both handles of the urn on the right-side frieze are in the same condition. The far left applied ornament on the drawer front has some losses and filler. Appears to retain its original marble top. There is a faint hairline near the left rear corner. Scattered nicks, dings and wear to the table consistent with age and use. Retains a good overall patina.
