Antique Swiss Hand Carved Lion of Lucerne Plaque
An antique hand carved wood plaque depicting the Lion of Lucerne. The Lion Monument is a rock relief in Lucerne, Switzerland, designed by Bertel Thorvaldsen and hewn in 1820–21 by Lukas Ahorn. It commemorates the Swiss Guards who were massacred in 1792 during the French Revolution, when revolutionaries stormed the Tuileries Palace in Paris. The plaque is hand carved from wood and measures 6 3/8" x 4 3/4" deep.
