Description
A colorful Coptic textile panel with running animals, Egypt, 5th – 6th Century AD, linen and wool, three of the sides are the original and it appears this was a long rectangular wrap or scarf, The main decoration on the piece is a rectangular panel divided into two horizontal registers containing running rabbits and hounds separated by floral devices, all on a red background with a wave pattern serving as an outer border. The hemmed end of the “scarf” with a predominantly red embroidered strip with a geometric design. 13 5/8 in x 11 in (34.6 x 27.9 cm). Some wear, but well preserved with brilliant colors. Ex Virginia private collection.
