1795 Robert Morris-Signed $6 North American Land Co,
ROBERT MORRIS (1734-1806). Signer of the Declaration of Independence, the Articles of Confederation, and the United States Constitution, Patriot of the American Revolutionary War and known as the "Financier of the Revolution," United States Senator from Pennsylvania.
March 16, 1795-Dated Federal Period, Partially-Printed Document Signed, “Rob’t Morris,” as President, of the North American Land Company, measures 12” x 9.75”, period laid paper, Choice Crsip Extremely Fine. This $6 for Four Shares from the company was signed by Robert Morris, who is also known as the “Financier of the American Revolution.” Morris is one of the few to sign all three major historic foundational Documents including: the Declaration of Independence, Articles of Confederation and The U.S. Constitution. He was a great Colonial era financier who also became Pennsylvania's first Senator. The North American Land Company owned thousands of square miles of land throughout many of the southern and mid-Atlantic colonies. Payment was not received quickly enough to pay off loans and make tax payments which eventually landed Morris in debtor's prison. Also signed by Secretary James Marshall, brother of future Chief Justice, John Marshall. Gorgeous overall quality having a massive bold 3.5” long signature “Rob’t Morris.”
