From Askart.com: Morris A. K. Feldsberg, or "The Jewish Artist," as polite Miami Beach Society would eventually call him, was considered a poet, artist, author, inventor, metaphysician and lecturer, and while the artist painted portraits, compositions and murals, he was particularly known for his marine paintings. Immigrating to this country in 1911 from Zwenigorodka, near Kiev, Russia, Feldsberg settled in Bayonne, New Jersey. The rudiments of art were learned from his brother, Jacob, who was a Russian producer of Shakespearean drama. Almost from the moment of his arrival here he began to study art. Painting was a passion with him, and he took courses at the National Academy of Design, where he began study in 1918 under such instructors as Charles Hinton, George Maynard and Charles Hawthorne; the Beaux Art School; and the Evening High School of Industrial Arts, all in New York City. In 1924 his work was exhibited by the Copley Society at the Boston Museum, and he was also included in Who's Who in Art in America. Feldsberg was among the first members of the North Shore Art Association, and also held memberships in the Gloucester Art Association, the Art Alliance of America, and was president of the League of American Artists and the New Art Society of New York City. Somehow the artist also found time to teach at his studio, in addition to being an instructor in art of drawing and painting at the Bayonne High School. Artistically, he painted all along the Eastern seaboard from Nova Scotia to the Florida Keys. He is reputed to have known the coasts of Newfoundland, Maine and Massachusetts as well as he knew his own home town. Married in 1926 to Olive Tulchner of New York City, he and his wife continued to make their home in Bayonne, New Jersey, but by 1930 began spending the winters at Miami Beach, Florida where they became an important part of the Jewish social scene.
