Choon, Kam Zin (Singapore, 1931-) Oil Painting. Choon, Kam Zin (Singapore, 1931-) “White Horses”. Oil on canvas. Signed lower right “Kam.” In good condition. Measures 24” x 30”. Frame measures 31 ” x 37 ”. A December 15, 1953 article in "The Straits Times" gives an account of the promising young 21 year old artist and member of the Chinese Y.M.C.A. Art Club who took part in an exhibition of paintings with the proceeds to go to the Y.M. C. A. new building fund and Art Club. And goes on that Kam Zin Choon would be leaving for Paris in February 1952 and that a group of wealthy patrons would be financing his journey there. An article in the June 18th 1960 Children's newspaper begins with "Few artists can have triumphed over a more discouraging start than Kam Zin Shoon, the young Chinese from Sinapore whose pictures are on view at the Commonweath Institue in London. The article elaborates on the earlier four-year course in Paris sponsored by wealthy patrons. Choon's work is in the collection of the Musees Nationaux, France and many other musuems and institutes.
