Description
A PAIR OF GEORGIAN CUT GLASS MAGNUM "NELSON" DECANTERS, FIRST QUARTER 19TH CENTURY, each with a solid wide pouring lip leading to a triple annulated neck and a high prism cut shoulder above the straight paneled body embellished with a register of diagonal eyelets over a wide diamond prism patterned band, the star cut base mirroring the matching mushroom stopper. Height: 10" NOTE: The term "Nelson" is used to describe decanters with cylindrical bodies, sharp shoulders, and ringed necks. Special thanks to Robin Butler and Butler's Antiques.
Condition
The heavy cut glass is in superb condition, with no large chips, cracks, or repairs. The glass has a very subtle yellow hue, barely noticeable. Around the shoulders, both have areas of slight clouding from the interior. General wear, including light scuffs and scratches throughout, but in excellent condition considering the age. Both stoppers appear to be original. Simpson Galleries strongly encourages in-person inspection of items by the bidder. Statements by Simpson Galleries regarding the condition of objects are for guidance only and should not be relied upon as statements of fact and do not constitute a representation, warranty, or assumption of liability by Simpson Galleries. All lots offered are sold "AS IS."
