AN INDONESIAN TRIBAL PAINTED AND CARVED WOOD ANCESTRAL POST, ASMAT PEOPLES, PAPUA NEW GUINEA, THIRD QUARTER 20TH CENTURY, portraying a reticulated abstract seated figure with slender head and stylized facial details flanked by circular ears suspending braided twine earrings, white wash residue with earthen red highlights throughout, mounted on a rectangular base. Height: 38 1/2" Provenance: Purchased from the Carlebach Gallery, New York, N.Y., January 1958 for $1,250.
