Description
Southeast Asia, Indonesia, Eastern Javanese, Majahapit Empire, ca. 1295 to 1527 CE. An excellently molded terracotta bust posing in a formal forward-facing stance with a small ovoid head, flat chest, broad, muscular shoulders, and sizable ears. The figure's calm countenance features almond shaped eyes, a high arched brow, a flat nose, and full lips gently resting in a small smile. With long locks of hair falling down his back, the figure is dressed lavishly with ornamental armbands, layers of beaded necklaces, and large circular earrings, indicating that he may represent a Hindu or Buddhist god or a deified Majahapit monarch. Serious yet serene, this ancient bust is a gorgeous example from Majahapit culture. Size: 8.25" L x 4.75" W (21 cm x 12.1 cm); 11" H (27.9 cm) on included custom stand.
