Description
Egypt, under Roman rule, ca. 1st century BCE to 1st century CE. Very attractive Limestone carving of a male's head. Oval face with short straight hairdo, large almond-shaped eyes and thin lips - with munch original pink and ochre pigment remaining. Once part of a frieze or sarcophagus with section of overhanging stone remaining. Custom base. Size: 7-1/2" H x 6-1/2" W (19.1 cm x 16.5 cm).
Provenance: Ex-private L. Nathan collection; ex-private NY dealer, acquired in Jerusalem, 1983.
