DESCRIPTION: Middle Sepik carved and polychrome ancestor mask. Stylized with cowrie shells, hook nose, incised mouth, and netted raffia around chin. 20th century. PROVENANCE: From the Saul and Florence Putterman Collection, Sarasota, Florida. Saul Putterman is an entrepreneur and founder of apparel and fashion manufacturing enterprises in New York, Florida, and Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania. Florence Putterman is a highly regarded artist who received her BS degree at New York University and her Masters of Fine Arts Degree at Penn State University. Originally from New York City, The Puttermans have made their home for over 50 years in Selinsgrove, PA, and winter in Sarasota, Florida. They are active humanitarians and philanthropists who collected fine modern and contemporary art and tribal art during their lives. MEASUREMENTS: 15" long. CONDITION: Abrasions, losses to surface, wear to raffia and woven cord at top.
