Description
SERIAL #: NoneDESIGN: 19th century Native American percussion operated black powder SxS shotgun with double hammers. 11" barrels have been cut down for use in tight surroundings, i.e. "under the blanket". Double triggers.MATERIAL/FINISH COMPOSITION: Steel barrels and components. The checkered wood half stock has been cut at the wrist emulating a crude pistol grip. FEATURES: No sights. Side plates are modestly engraved. The forearm is wrapped in hide in two places and decorated with brass tacks typical of Indian decoration. The wrist of the stock, which is now the grip, is decorated with numerous brass tacks. The accompanying holster is made of stitched and folded hide and decorated with US cavalry buttons, feathers, and fringe made of hide. These items are displayed in a large wood paneled shadow box with tan vinyl backing and glass front. MEASUREMENTS: Box is 32-1/2" x 21-3/4" x 6-1/2". PROVENANCE: Wood bordered label at the bottom right of display provides its history. It was purchased from the collection Jack Lauer of Marshalls Creek, PA, in 1999. He had purchased it from Andre Amulet, French Canadian Forest Ranger from Strawbridge, Montreal Canda, who in turn had acquired it from an Indian Reservation on the Saskatchewan Trail. CONDITION: Not examined out of shadow box. A dark patina has developed on the barrels and other metal components. Uneven cut to barrel muzzles. What remains of the original stock appears solid. No ramrod. The holster is in excellent condition. Minimal wear to the shadow box.
