DESCRIPTION: Gabriel Godard (French, B. 1933). Oil on canvas. Paysages a l'arbre rose. Depicts stylized landscape with desaturated color palette. Signed and dated in lower left corner "G. Godard '64". In gold frame with cloth liner. Godard was born in 1933 in Lorraine. He started painting in 1950 with many of his initial works being figurative. Godard later changed his method and style, and his paintings since 1986 have become purely abstract. Godard is a School of Paris painter, meaning part of a group of artists working between World War I and World War II whose works has been acquired by the French government for the Musee d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris. PROVENANCE: Purchased at the Artioli Findlay Gallery in 1967. From a prominent Kings Point, New York Estate. MEASUREMENTS: 15-3/4" x 12-3/4". Overall with frame 22" x 19". CONDITION: Minor wear to frame including scratches, abrasions, and losses.
