Pair of Chinese Late Qing Dynasty Iron Red Baluster Porcelain Urns, c. 1910, with integral Foo Dog handles, the sides with Foo Dogs and seven babies, verso with calligraphic inscriptions, H.- 23 3/4 in., Dia.- 9 1/4 in.
Condition
Condition consistent with age. An uneven texture is noted to a two inch area of one rim. A flea-sized chip is seen on one handle and a pea-sized chip is noted on the rim. A hairline crack is observed through one foo dog, with a 1 inch section filled with black residue. Two clusters of green specks and one cluster of purple residue are noted on the sides of one example. Black residue is noted on one rim. Scattered flea-sized losses and light scratches are noted throughout the painted decoration on both pieces. An intriguing pair.
