Description: "Christian J. Walter (1872-1938) was an autodidactic Pittsburgh painter who created impressionistic landscape and figurative images. At age 24, Walter showed in the first Carnegie International, he helped to found the Associated Artists of Pittsburgh (the longest running continuous art league in Pittsburgh), and he headed the 1936 Federal Art Project. His work is in the Westmoreland Museum of American Art and the John Vanderpoel Art Association Coll., Chicago.
