Japanese WWII Showa-to Military/Civilian Sword
Item Details
Description
Description: Showa Period (1926/1988) "Showato" made by "Noshu Seki ju Kanesane tsukru". This sword has a 25".875 inch long cutting ede which officially qualifies it as a "Katana" and was made sometime between 1934 and 1945. "Samurai" type swords made a comeback during the Showa Period as there was a revival of all things Samurai due to the increase of Nationalistic pride instilled by the Military throughout Japan at that time. Because this sword has a 25".875 inch long cutting edge it's length classifies this example as a "Katana". The blade is straight with no bends or cracks. The entire blade is out of polish but temper can be seen when viewed properly. There are a few very small nicks found along the length of the blade which do not interfere with it's asthetics and simply proove it's field use in battle during the second World War. Condition
Overall condition is good. Blade is typical for a well used combat sword. Blade is "gray" overall but temper can be seen. Sword is in 1930's civilian mounts but refitted later for military use in that it at one time had a leather "combat" cover encasing the scabbard. As with many of these leather "combat" covers it has rotted away from use in the damp and humid jungle conditions faced on many of the Pacific Islands. The handle, Fuchi, Kashira and Tsuba being of the civilian pre war style.
