"Samurai" type swords made a comeback during the Showa Period (1926/88) as there was a revival of all things Samurai due to the increase of Nationalistic pride instilled by the Military throughout Japan at that time.Japanese hand made "Samurai" sword with a 25".25 inch long cutting edge which classifies this example as a "Katana". Condition
Overall condition of this sword is good with some staining to the blade caused by finger prints and not being wiped down properly when put away over the last 70 + years. This staining will come out if properly restored and repolished. There are 3 very small chips just below the mono uchi which in no way interferes with the asthetics of the sword. Blade is straight but also has some light active rust (which can be easily neutralized and eliminated). The habaki is a typical brass military style collar with some light "falling rain" design. The blade is housed in a palownia wood shira saya, also known as, "sleeping scabbard". This is a nice representative World War II era example of a true hand forged Japanese blade.
