Description: 1897 Currier & Ives hand colored lithograph of "DARKTOWN BICYCLING -SCOOPED DE PEAR and Sumfins Busted. Framed size, 17.5 x 21.5". Frame has some wear and chipping.

History: A good example of how widespread bigotry persisted in the North even after the Civil War. Another in a series of stereotypically derogatory images of African Americans from the end of the 19th century, illustrated by Thomas Worth for Currier & Ives.
