Description
India, 18th century CE. This is a spherical, hollow, bronze "tiger bell" and a donut-shaped bell. Both are functional. Bells like these were used throughout central and southeast Asia. The tiger face on the round bell suggests India; the other has a simple cross-hatched design. These bells were for use in shamanistic rituals. Size of largest: 1.5" W x 2.25" H (3.8 cm x 5.7 cm)
Provenance: Ex-estate of Paul and Louise Bernheimer, Cambridge, MA and Laguna Woods, CA - acquired before 1980
