Description
Egypt, Late Dynastic Period, Dynasties 26 through 30, ca 662 to 315 BCE. Large and quite attractive wooden sarcophagus section. Flat back panel to which the mummy mask was attached using wooden dowels, added ears and extensions of wig to each side with remains of white gesso with red pigment. Size: 21.5" L x 16" W (54.6 cm x 40.6 cm).
Provenance: Ex-Paul and Louise Bernheimer, Cambridge, MA and Laguna Woods, CA, acquired before 1980.
