Ely Laumonier (listed French b. 1895) ""Village de Montagne", oil on wood panel. Mountain Village, signed lower left. PROVENANCE: A Paris, France and Charleston, SC Private Collection. Essentially a painter of Provence landscapes, he met with the approval of Provence's literary offspring, particularly Marcel Pagnol and Thyde Monnier, who were captivated by his way of rendering olive trees and southern skies. Laumonier exhibited in Paris at the Salon des Artistes Francais, of which he was a member. In 1963 he won its gold medal and henceforth entered as a non-competing participant.
