Description
DESCRIPTION: Two carved Dogon figures. Includes: 1) Dogon ancestor figure. Possibly 19th century. Carved in Bombu-Toro style. The long columnar body has an elongated neck and arms, prominent breasts, and navel and foreshortened legs with bent knees. The figure is naked except for armlets, bracelets, and belt around waist. Head with a crested plaited hair ridge and side coifs ornamented with engraved motifs and a long braid down the back. The eyes are closed, the nose long, and mouth open. The feet and right hand are missing. Approximately 33" tall. 2) Kneeling Dogon figure with helmet head, beard, arrow shaped nose. Large pendulous breasts and hands decorated with bracelets resting on lap. Overall wear to surface. Approximately 22” tall. MEASUREMENTS: See Description. CONDITION: See Description.
