Description
Lot of 4, all hand painted French porcelain including a ewer with wisteria and gilt trim, artist signed "H.V. Palmer"7 1/2" diameter x 5" high; and three plates all hand painted floral designs, one artist signed, and one with her person underglaze printed Studio mark, 6, 7 1/2, & 8 1/2" diameter. Hattie Palmer was born in Ripley, Ohio in 1866 and studied painting at the Cincinnati Art Academy where she studied painting and china painting. After leaving Cincinnati she worked breifly in New Orleans before moving to Houston Texas where she opened a studio until her death in 1933. In 1924 she had a one person exhibition at the Houston Museum of Fine Arts, other shows included Oklahoma-Texas Exhibition, Wichita Falls, Texas; Fort Worth Museum of Art; Texas Fine Arts Assoc., Austin as well as exhibitions in Indianapolis, Cincinnati and Nashville.
