Item Details

Description

Beautifully hand painted roses with gilt scroll work on a fitted porcelain stand with paw feet, artist signed "H.V. Young Mar. 1899" with porcelain makers mark of "D&C France", 11" diameter x 11 1/2" high on stand. Hattie Palmer was born in Ripley, Ohio in 1866 and studied painting at the Cincnnati Art Academy where she studied painting and china painting. After leaving Cincinnati she worked breifly in New Orleans before moving to Houston Texas where she opened a studio until her death in 1933. In 1924 she had a one person exhibition at the Houston Museum of Fine Arts, other shows included Oklahoma-Texas Exhibition, Wichita Falls, Texas; Fort Worth Museum of Art; Texas Fine Arts Assoc., Austin as well as exhibitions in Indianapolis, Cincinnati and Nashville.
