Description
19th century self-portrait painting on canvas, frame measures 28 1/4 x 24 and stretcher measures 21 1/2 x 17 1/4, features Toledo, Ohio artist, Wilder Darling (1856-1933), sitting in his studio in his artist smock and cap pallet in hand with unframed canvas in view. Signed lower left. Wilder M. Darling, painter and teacher, was born in Sandusky, Ohio, in 1856. He was still in his teens in his native Sandusky, Ohio, when he chose an art career. He trained first in Cincinnati. Sometime in the mid- 1870s he went for further study to Munich from 1877 to 1878. Condition - good condition, old canvas attached to new stretcher.
