Description
C. 1896-1914 oil on canvas painting by Wilder M. Darling, Toledo artist, (1856-1933,) of a Dutch girl peeling fruit or vegetables near a large open hearth, upper portion of original stretcher salvaged when reframed with original framer's label "H. Olds, 12 Washington Row" . Wilder M. Darling, painter and teacher, was born in Sandusky, Ohio, in 1856. He was still in his teens in his native Sandusky, Ohio, when he chose an art career. He trained first in Cincinnati. Sometime in the mid- 1870s he went for further study to Munich from 1877 to 1878. Condition - minor inpainting on the left side face and at corners from frame's abrasion, measured in frame 23 1/2 X 28.
