Description
Neoclassical Fruitwood and Walnut Partner's Writing Table, early 19th century, the square top banded and centered by a heraldic emblem, above a conforming frieze fitted to either end with a writing slide over three drawers, all banded, the sides banded en suite, raised on tapering square legs, h. 32", w. 45", d. 45-1/4".
Condition
In very good polished and restored condition. The piece exhibits normal wear, a number of past restorations to inlay, mars, shrinkage and minor abrasions consistent with age and use. The top exhibits evidence of insect damage, now filled and colored-in. It appears to now be stable and structurally sound. There is evidence of other minor insect damage elsewhere on the piece. The central octagonal banding on the top has a veneer loss approximately 1/2" x 1/2" x 3/8". There is a small veneer loss to the perimeter banding, about 1/8" x 3/8". One drawer is presently locked . All others open. No key accompanies the piece. Legs firmly affixed; table solid.
