Original lapel button, 1" diameter, with white letter on red background: "Me Amelican Yes!... No Japanese (no date or identification on verso); with US War Relocation Authority. Relocation of Japanese-Americans (Washington, D.C., May 1943) Original wrappers. 11 pp. Illustrated with photographs.

The official government document puts a wartime propaganda "spin" on the forced evacuation of Nisei from the Pacific Coast during World War II, giving assurances that adequate education and employment and freedom of religion prevailed in the relocation camps (but not at exorbitant cost to white taxpayers). But the button graphically tells the story of the popular American racism that gave democratic justification to the tragedy.
