Description
The antique panels are made of shan mu, an evergreen type of wood that is easy to carve. Carvers did an excellent presentation of intricate repeat designs of interlocking flattened circular designs. Each door panel has a central medallion with one of the Eight Immortals. Unfortunately only six door panels were found together, The small panels inserted in the middle are compositions of antiques and furniture done in a three dimensional way and to scale which is amazing. These architectural panels were found in the grand houses in the mountains of Anhui Province and obviously survived the ravages of the Cultural Revolution. In order to preserve China's past, the Bureau of Cultural Preservation has banned the exportation of these artifacts since 2005, These pieces were purchased in the early 2000's. Each panel is 28 inches wide, 2.5 inches deep and 103 inches high.
