Chinese Red Lacquer Small Cabinet, probably early 20th century in date, is was created for an affluent family home. The drawers and doors on the front of the piece are decorated with carved panels with figures of entertainers and martial arts performers. The red cinnabar lacquer surface--sides and top-- is decorated with peonies and flying birds exquisitely defined with gold linear details. The back is also finished with red lacquer and floral motifs.
