White marble. China, presumably Northern Wei dynasty (385 – 535)
A stepped, round and elegant lotus pedestal. A bodhisattva standing bare-footed on top, in a heavily creased robe. He is wearing a crown with ribbons falling down to the shoulders and metal gear on the chest. A lotus bud in the elevated hand and a disc in the lower. These attributes are an indication of the bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara (Guanyin in China). Remnants of red paint (primer) as well as earth encrustations. Light weathering and bruises on exposed areas, otherwise good condition and complete. 大ç†çŸ³é›•è©è–©ç«‹åƒ. ä¸åœ‹, 約北éæœ (385-535). 高 40.9厘米.
