Description
Porcelain. China, Qing 18th cent.
This porcelain sculpture of a seated mythological creature (known as qilin and considered as a good omen), is impressive with its turquoise glaze and spirited head. The qilin has one horn curving forward, long fluttering ears, eyebrows with volutes and staring, animated eyes. The creature’s mouth is clenching a branch leading up to a large lingzhi, the magical longevity mushroom, forming a large flat bowl with an opening at the center on the qilin’s back. The hole serves as a holder for incense sticks. Further lingzhi are growing on the branch. The mane on the back has many little spiralling locks. The wooden base is fitted precisely and elaborately carved. The motifs are floral (prunus blossoms), spirals, borders with leiwen meanders, as well as spirals and lingzhi in a decorative design on top. Note: A similar example is published in the book „QING PORCELAIN“ by Beurdeley/Raindre on page 144, no. 209 ç“·é€ éº’éºŸåº§åƒã€‚ä¸åœ‹ï¼Œæ¸…代,18世紀。高22.5åŽ˜ç±³ã€‚ç‘žå£«é˜¿æ–¯ç§‘ç´ çš„Jürgen L. From the collection of Jürgen L. Fischer, Ascona, Switzerland
The porcelain objects nos. 21 to 59 come from the Swiss collection of Jürgen L. Fischer, one of the major European collectors of Chinese art. The extensive size of the collection largely owes to the family’s fortune from the invention of the world-famous “Uhu Alleskleber †in 1932 (the first synthetic resin glue world-wide) by grandfather August Fischer. Jürgen L. Fischer, who lived until 2013, was an avid collector of Chinese porcelain in an astonishing wide variety, in every size and from every time period. Jürgen Fischer passed on his comprehensive knowledge in numerous specialist books – among others, his large and very instructive book about the art of Chinese snuffbottles and also an antiquarian’s guide to Chinese art. 21至59號陶瓷器來自瑞士Jürgen L.
