Bronze. China, late Ming to Qing Dynasty, approx. 17th to 18th cent.
Guanyin sits in lotus pose, upper body and head with crown are held high, the breast is adorned with jewelry. The base is a rock out of which gnarled branches are jutting to display the attributes of bird and rabbit. The bird is a reference to the legend of Princess Miaoshan, who became one of the embodiments of Guanyin.
