Anna Vaughn Hyatt Huntington (American, 1876-1973), pair of figural bronze sculptures with verdi gras patina comprising of "Reaching Jaguar (Reaching Panther or Mountain Lion)" and "Descending Jaguar (Descending Panther or Mountain Lion)"-circa 1906, each signed "Anna V. Hyatt" and with marks for Gorham Foundry. Figural cast bronze sculptures depicting complementary panthers on naturalistic rocky bases. "Reaching Panther" marked with "#21" and serial number "0493". "Descending Panther" marked with "#230" and "038". "Reaching Panther" approximate height 6.5", width 4", depth 3". "Descending Panther" approximate height 6.5", width 4", depth 3". Condition
Leftward facing panther: minor vertical linear abrasion to left side at base through the patina, approximately 6mm, also similar abrasion to right haunch (c-shaped, approximately 2mm); very minor patina loss to three places along base and to panther's ears, evidently from general handling. Rightward facing panther: right haunch and elbow each with minor shallow circular abrasions, approximately 4mm and 3mm; minor wear evident along lower edge from general handling. Under blacklight examination, no apparent repairs or restorations. Overall with patina and oxidation commensurate with age. No apparent cracks, fractures, or chips.
